PROTECTED NATURAL AREAS

Peru has 56 Protected Natural Areas, that comprise approximately 10% of the national territory.

BIOSPHERE RESERVES
These reservations are spaces that have been recognized by the UNESCO like world patrimony. These are the following ones:

1)Manu Reserve: National park of the Manu.
2)Huascarán Reserve: National park of the Huascarán.
3)Northwest Reserve:
- National Park Cerros de Amotape.
- Limit of Hunt El Angolo.
- Reserved area of Tumbes.
- National Sanctuary Manglares de Tumbes.

NATIONAL PARKS
These are natural protected intangibles areas; it is forbidden all human activity, to exception of the ecotourism and the environmental education in very restricted areas.

NATIONAL RESERVES
The objective is to conserve the biological diversity besides to allow and to foment the sustainable use of the wild resources, that is to say, the natural resources can be marketed but with approved handling plans and supervised by the competent authority.

NATIONAL SANCTUARIES
They have as purpose to protect species, communities and specific ecosystems.

HISTORICAL SANCTUARIES
The objective of the Historical Sanctuaries is to protect spaces that have national historical importance.

LANDSCAPE RESERVES
The purpose is to protect spaces that have cultural and aesthetics relevance.

PROTECTION FORESTS
The purpose is to conserve the vegetation; therefore is forbidden the wooden extraction.

COMMUNAL RESERVES
Theses are natural spaces that have as function to conserve the flora and wild fauna in benefit of the rural populations and close rural communities.

GAME RESERVES
These are areas dedicated to the use of the wild fauna through regulated practice of the sport hunting.

RESERVED AREAS
These are areas that are in evaluation and study to be considered as Protected Natural Areas.
